Vivienne Starweave (née Thornwell)

Matriarch - The Seer

Age: 45

“I’ve looked into many possible futures, Blastran. The ones where you stand alone are… darker than you imagine. But perhaps some paths must be walked before they’re understood.”

Vivienne possesses an elegant poise that comes from knowing more than she reveals. Her dark auburn hair carries silver streaks she wears without vanity, and her striking violet-grey eyes - a Thornwell trait - seem to look through present moments into possible futures. She favors deep greens and silvers, less ostentatious than her husband’s formal robes, and wears a crystal orb pendant that’s been in the Thornwell family for generations.

The Thornwells are an old magical family specializing in divination and prophecy. When Aldric arranged the marriage alliance, he saw the strategic value in binding a family of seers to the Starweaves. What he perhaps didn’t anticipate was that Vivienne’s talent would exceed his son’s general wizardry. She’s an exceptional diviner, skilled at scrying, prophecy interpretation, and reading portents. Her gift lets her sense emotional currents and glimpse future possibilities.

She plays the dutiful wife role perfectly while quietly managing more than people realize. Society expects her to support rather than overshadow Cornelius, and she does - publicly. Behind closed doors, she uses her divination to guide family decisions “subtly,” maintaining the fiction that her husband leads while she follows. It’s a dance they both know the steps to.

The Complication with Blastran

Vivienne’s feelings about her son’s rebellion are more conflicted than she shows. She may have foreseen this outcome, glimpsed it in possible futures, and the guilt of not preventing it haunts her quiet moments. Her letters to Blastran are warmer than Cornelius’s lectures but still expect compliance: “I’ve seen what happens to talented wizards without guidance, darling. Please reconsider.”

Part of her - the part she doesn’t examine too closely - might respect his courage. She chose to work within the system, to manipulate from the shadows. He chose to walk away entirely. She’s not sure which requires more strength.

Current Concerns

Managing family social connections while using divination to maintain Starweave influence. Increasingly worried about Celeste showing similar signs to Blastran. Beginning to wonder if she saw this coming and did nothing because some part of her wanted her children to have choices she never allowed herself.
